# AIStor Client EDGE.2026-08-17T04-19-07Z

Released: 2026-08-18

This EDGE build adds client support for several AIStor server capabilities
shipped in the same cycle: per-bucket compression policy, OpenSharing volume
sharing, system inventory, per-task leader visibility, and table-level
encryption override removal. It also clears six CVE scanner findings and renames
the published packages to `acli-*`. Operators with scripts calling the old
`mc inventory` bucket-inventory subcommands must read Breaking Changes before
upgrading.

## Breaking Changes

- **The bucket-inventory subcommands have been removed and `mc inventory` now
  targets AIStor system inventory.** These five commands no longer exist:

  ```text
  mc inventory generate
  mc inventory put
  mc inventory list
  mc inventory get
  mc inventory delete
  ```

  The `status` name is reused for the new system-inventory status command, so a
  script calling `mc inventory status` will run but report something different.
  The new surface is cluster-scoped:

  ```text
  mc inventory enable ALIAS
  mc inventory disable ALIAS
  mc inventory configure set ALIAS KEY=VALUE [KEY=VALUE...]
  mc inventory configure get ALIAS [KEY]
  mc inventory status ALIAS[/BUCKET]
  ```

  `enable`, `disable` and `configure` operate on the cluster-wide
  `system_inventory` subsystem and accept an alias only — bucket- or
  object-qualified targets are rejected. The superseded bucket-inventory job
  implementations and the batch-to-inventory YAML converter are removed with
  them (#573).

- **The leader indicator is gone from the TUI node list.** `IsLeader` is
  deprecated and now true on many nodes, so it no longer identifies a unique
  leader. Per-task leader assignments are shown in a new `mc admin info` section
  instead — see New Features (#551).

## Security Updates

These bumps exist to satisfy SCA scanners rather than to close a reachable
exploit path: `govulncheck` reports zero affected symbols for all of them, and
they were raised because a customer bundling the client into an air-gapped image
has a deployment gate that blocks on any scanner finding regardless of
reachability.

- Bumped the Go toolchain to 1.26.6 (both `go.mod` and the Dockerfile bases),
  `github.com/apache/thrift` to v0.24.0, and `golang.org/x/mod` to v0.40.0,
  clearing CVE-2026-39821 and CVE-2026-46600 in the standard library,
  CVE-2026-48586 and CVE-2026-55969 in thrift, and CVE-2026-56864 and
  CVE-2026-56865 in `x/mod`. A `trivy` scan of the resulting binary goes from 5
  HIGH/CRITICAL findings to 0. The base-image bump also clears a `go.mod`
  versus base mismatch that broke `GOTOOLCHAIN=local` and air-gapped builds
  (SUBNET #17684, #605).

- Bumped `github.com/klauspost/compress` to v1.19.1 for GO-2026-5841, an
  out-of-bounds read in `compress/s2`, and `google.golang.org/grpc` to v1.82.1
  for GO-2026-6061, affecting the xDS RBAC and HTTP/2 transport paths. Three
  remaining advisories in the Avro decoder (GO-2026-5046, GO-2026-5047,
  GO-2026-5048) have no upstream fix, so they are suppressed in the govulncheck
  ignore list — a suppression that holds only while no fixed version exists and
  fails as stale the moment one appears (#600).

---

## New Features

- **`mc compress` — per-bucket compression policy.** Manages a compression
  policy that wholly overrides the cluster-wide compression settings for one
  bucket, with three subcommands mirroring `mc quota`: `set`, `info` and
  `clear`. With no flags, `set` compresses every object above the 4 KiB floor;
  filter flags build a single include rule matching on `--prefix`,
  `--extension`, `--mime-type`, a `--min-size`/`--max-size` window, or object
  `--tag`/`--metadata` pairs, with `--match exact|contains` controlling how
  values compare. `--allow-encryption` extends compression to server-side
  encrypted objects, and `--config-file` accepts a full JSON policy — an ordered
  list of include/exclude rules where first match wins — from a path or stdin.
  Note that `clear` and `set --disable` differ: `clear` removes the policy so
  the bucket returns to the cluster default, while `set --disable` keeps a
  policy that says never compress this bucket. Compression is a per-site local
  property, so the policy is not site-replicated. All three subcommands support
  `--json` (#578).

- **OpenSharing volumes in the `table share` command family.** A share can now
  expose OpenSharing volumes — directories of unstructured files vended through
  short-lived credentials — alongside tables, and may contain only volumes, only
  tables, or both. `create` gains a repeatable `--volume "NAME:BUCKET[:PATH]"`
  flag; `update` gains `--add-volume` and `--remove-volume`, and removing the
  last table from a schema no longer prunes it while volumes remain; `info`
  renders volumes in the schema tree; and `list` adds a `VOLUMES` column (#598).

- **`mc inventory` for AIStor system inventory.** The repurposed command group
  enables, disables, configures and reports the cluster-wide system inventory
  subsystem. `configure set` accepts supported, unique, whitespace-free
  `KEY=VALUE` arguments and carries forward the persisted `enable` value, so
  changing one setting cannot implicitly enable or disable inventory; incomplete
  server configuration is rejected rather than guessed. `configure get` renders
  the effective configuration including server defaults, explicit values and
  annotated environment overrides. `status` accepts `ALIAS/BUCKET` to filter to
  one bucket and uses deterministic bucket ordering in both human-readable and
  JSON output. The `inventory` trace call type is available through
  `mc admin trace --call inventory`, and Bash completion covers the new surface.
  See Breaking Changes for what this replaces (#573).

- **Per-task leader assignments in `mc admin info`.** A new "Leader Assignments"
  section shows which node holds each named per-task leader lock. This follows
  the server's move from a single cluster-wide leader lock to independent
  per-task locks, each elected separately — so leadership is now distributed
  rather than concentrated on one node. The full map is available via
  `mc admin info ALIAS --json` under `leaders` (#551).

- **`mc table encrypt clear` for table targets.** Removes a table's encryption
  override so it falls back to inheriting the warehouse default, through a new
  `DELETE /{warehouse}/namespaces/{namespace}/tables/{table}/encryption` call.
  The command is no longer hidden and no longer rejects table targets, and gains
  a real help template in place of its deprecated stub. Warehouse targets keep
  working and still print the deprecation warning pointing at
  `mc table warehouse encrypt clear`; table targets do not warn. Requires a
  server carrying the corresponding endpoint and policy action (#601).

- **`mc admin accesskey grouped`** lists all stored access keys on the server
  across every identity provider. The `--temp-only` flags are now hidden, having
  been deprecated (#562).

- **D-state thread diagnostics in `mc support diag`.** Surfaces the new
  uninterruptible-sleep thread snapshot, nested inside process info on the wire
  and carried into the existing diagnostics archive with no archive-format
  change. It is collected automatically as part of the system process-info
  request the client already issues, so the existing progress counter covers it,
  and the accompanying analyzer surfaces the section through the existing
  `--check` table (#538).

- **Outlier reporting in `mc support perf object`.** Speed-test results now
  highlight degraded servers with explicit error and outlier markers, and report
  the projected throughput the cluster would deliver once those nodes are
  healthy alongside the raw observed figure (#552).

- **`--node-status` for `mc admin decom status`** shows per-node decommission
  status from the distributed framework (#583).

## Bug Fixes

- Corrected the colors on the warehouse maintenance success message, which did
  not match the convention used elsewhere in the Tables output (#594).

---

## Packaging

- **Published packages are now named `acli-*`.** The release tooling's app name
  changes from `mc-enterprise` to `ac`, with a package name of `acli`, so
  packages ship as `acli_<version>_<arch>.deb` and
  `acli-<version>-1.<arch>.rpm`. Nothing about the installed client changes: the
  binary name is untouched, the installed command remains
  `/usr/local/bin/mcli` as a symlink onto the single real binary, and the
  release tooling symlinks the old package filenames onto the new ones so
  existing download links keep resolving. This applies to the edge line (#600).

## Security & Compliance

### Software Bill of Materials (SBOM)

This release includes SBOM documentation in multiple formats:

- [SPDX JSON](https://dl.min.io/aistor/mc/edge/notes/sbom-EDGE.2026-08-17T04-19-07Z.spdx.json) - Standard SBOM format
- [CycloneDX JSON](https://dl.min.io/aistor/mc/edge/notes/sbom-EDGE.2026-08-17T04-19-07Z.cyclonedx.json) - Security scanner compatible
- [Go Modules](https://dl.min.io/aistor/mc/edge/notes/go-modules-EDGE.2026-08-17T04-19-07Z.txt) - Human-readable dependency list

SBOM files document all direct and transitive dependencies for security auditing
and compliance requirements.

## Upgrade Instructions

Replace the `mc` binary in place, or upgrade the package through your package
manager. The client is a single static binary with no state to migrate.

For AIStor documentation, see https://docs.min.io/aistor/

### Migration Notes

- **Scripts calling the bucket-inventory subcommands must be updated.**
  `mc inventory generate`, `put`, `list`, `get` and `delete` are removed, and
  `mc inventory status` now reports system-inventory state rather than
  bucket-inventory state. Audit any automation referencing `mc inventory`
  before upgrading (#573).

- **Automation parsing the TUI node list for a leader marker must be
  updated.** The `*` indicator is removed; read the `leaders` map from
  `mc admin info ALIAS --json` instead (#551).

- **Package name change.** If your provisioning pins a package filename,
  note the move to `acli-*`. Old filenames remain resolvable through
  symlinks, so existing download URLs continue to work (#600).

### Server Version Requirements

Several commands in this build require a server from the same cycle:
`mc compress`, the `table share` volume flags, `mc inventory`, the Leader
Assignments section, `mc table encrypt clear` on table targets, the D-state
diagnostics section, and `mc admin accesskey grouped` all depend on server-side
APIs shipped in the corresponding AIStor server EDGE build. Against an older
server these will report an unsupported or missing API.
